Patek Philippe Twenty-4 – two new automatic models for 2021 The Patek Philippe Twenty-4 collection has been enlarged this year with three additional models, including two new automatic options. These latter watches both feature the Calibre 324 S, a beautifully appointed self-winding movement. Once again, Patek demonstrates that it is able to fulfil the desires of female watch aficionados with serious mechanical watchmaking. In 1999, Patek Philippe unveiled the Twenty-4. It was the Maison’s first women’s only collection. The watch was an immediate hit, attracting women with its day-to-day practicality coupled with a high quotient of glamour. From the outset, this model featured an Art Deco cuff design or ‘manchette’ and, courtesy of its modern appearance has gone on to appeal to ladies of all ages. The curved profile of the case ergonomically hugs the wrist, augmenting wearer comfort while two rows of diamonds, arranged vertically, sit either side of the dial. Initially, the dial featured Roman numerals at 6 and 12 o’clock, however, on recent versions Arabic numerals have taken up residence in the aforementioned positions. A quartz movement powers the rectangular-shaped model. As a self-confessed purist, I can appreciate the Twenty-4’s sublime habillage, but struggle to love the idea of battery power. Indeed, being aware of Patek’s exceptional watchmaking prowess, I would always yearn for one of its mechanical movements.
