Omega introduces to you their Seamaster 300M Nekton edition. Around 20 years ago, Omega introduced a Seamaster 300M version for the America’s Cup. The watch has a black dial and a white gold bezel, a variation of the 300M that I really adored. And still do. The new Seamaster 300M Nekton shows some similarities!

Today, we show you the latest variation on the 300M, the Seamaster 300M Nekton. Nekton is a research foundation committed to protecting the oceans. Omega is supporting them in their mission to save the seas. To underline their partnership, Omega came up with a pretty cool Seamaster 300M Nekton edition. I am looking forward to doing a hands-on review with this 300M Nekton, so I will keep this article a bit brief.

Seamaster 300M Nekton Edition

The Seamaster 300M has been one of the most successful collections for Omega, ever since its introduction in 1993. But, like the Speedmaster, people like to have some variation. So Omega introduced several over the years, you can find a large portion of them in our dedicated Omega Seamaster 300M Magazine (which you can download here). The Nekton reminded me of the America’s Cup edition from 2000, as I wrote above.

Titanium Bezel

Instead of a white gold bezel (Omega later on also made similar models with the bezel in steel), the Seamaster 300M Nekton edition has a bezel made of grade 5 titanium. The numerals in positive relief are done using laser ablation, a technology that is often used by Omega.  The same technology has been applied to the dial of this watch. You will find the famous waves in positive relief, made of black ceramic (ZrO2).

Caliber 8806

Inside is Omega’s in-house manufacture movement 8806. It is a Master Chronometer movement, certified by METAS (and COSC), that is able to resist magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss. The movement has received a special luxury finish, decorated with Geneva waves in arabesque and has a rhodium plated movement and bridges. Unfortunately, the movement can’t be admired, but the good thing is that the caseback has this beautiful embossed Nekton submarine medallion.

Seamaster 2 – Sir Peter Blake

One of Nekton’s research submersibles is called the Seamaster 2, referring to the boat skippered by the late Sir Peter Blake. The legendary yachtsman who was also active in the field of ocean conservation. Sir Peter Blake was an Omega ambassador from 1995 till his unfortunate death in 2002.
