With the new wave of female watch enthusiasts, watch brands have started creating mind-blowing, mechanical timepieces for women.
For quite some time, I’ve been barraged with questions from ladies, just entering the watchmaking universe. Many would-be collectors want to know which timepiece to invest in. Thus, I’ve decided to dedicate this article to watches that you will wear forever. The list ranges from vibrant-but-timelessness styles to a more modern blend of sexy and elegant designs. There’s a timepiece out there for each of us. Here are my 7 most iconic luxury women’s watches that provide the perfect springboard into an endlessly enriching hobby.
You can never go wrong with the refined Piaget Altiplano. There a few families better naturally suited for women. It is a model that evokes the spontaneous style and sensitivity of women — a supremely simple and sexy rose-gold timepiece with a brown alligator strap. It is a powerful statement. The thinnest automatic wristwatch (450P movement) sets slim, elongated hour markers against a sharp white dial. The scrupulously balanced theme continues with the delicate off-centered small seconds indicator.
Rolex Datejust 36
I’ve never hankered after a Rolex. The brand is too common, too showy, and too associated with things I don’t like for me to join that club. However, I must admit, the Rolex Datejust 36 on a Jubilee bracelet is an iconic piece. Without a doubt, the fluted bezel is an eye-catcher.
It oozes contemporary but illustrates how well-thought-out objects can stand the test of time. Here I’ve chosen for you the 36mm version, made from Yellow Rolesor with a champagne sun-brushed dial. Completing its stylish design is the Jubilee bracelet, one of the most divine bracelets you can find on the market. This watch is powered by one of Rolex’s famous in-house calibers, the 3235.
Cartier Tank Française
Cartier watches are one of the longest-serving royal timepieces in the world, flaunted on the wrists of royals, such as Princess Diana (Tank Française), and Kate Middleton (Ballon Bleu). Here, I’ve chosen to shine the spotlight on the most classical design — the Tank Française. It is an ultra-unisex concept noteworthy for its refined but universal appeal. With its silvered flinqué dial with Roman numerals, its cabochon crown, and its blue hour and minute swords hands, it is no stranger to bringing the horological heat. Furthermore, it’s a Cartier’s ladies’ watch in every sense. And it does not disappoint in terms of character. It is modest with a hint of elegance. It is a timeless choice that won’t let you down. And best of all? There are simply loads of models to choose from, and even more bracelet/strap options to keep things interesting.
Bulgari Serpenti Seduttori
This is the only luxury women’s watch on this list with a quartz movement. The strong design represents everything that the Italian brand stands for — gemstones, vibrant colors, and unconventional bracelets. Here I have for you a variation that caught my eye. The yellow gold and white opaline dial complement the beautiful bracelet, made-up as it is, of a hexagonal snake’s skin pattern. The diamond-pave bezel and crown, set with a cabochon-cut pink rubellite, remain as arresting as ever.
Patek Philippe Aquanaut
Resembling the men’s Aquanaut, this Patek Philippe jewelry timepiece is made of rose gold and is studded with 50 baguette diamonds. The case measures 35.6 mm and comes with a pearly beige polymer material strap. The engraved mother-of-pearl dial is a worthy pairing with the movement that sits behind it — Caliber 324 S C, with a self-winding mechanical movement.
I’m obsessed with everything Omega. Constellation is my style and for me, it remains the game-changer. Here I present the Constellation which is on my wish-list. It is the design that embraces the brand’s code while reinforcing a modern edge. The case, with its diamond-paved bezel, measures 29 mm in diameter.
43 diamonds perfectly accentuate the deep blue aventurine glass dial, creating a striking contrast with the stainless steel. The dial emphasizes the white gold skeletonized-leaf-shaped hands, star, and diamond-studded hours. Another powerful trait of this watch is its unforgettable bracelet. To top it all off, a transparent case back reveals the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8700.
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak
The Royal Oak 34 is fierce but unisex. This Audemars Piguet is a masterful three-dimensional design. Home to the self-winding caliber 5800, the Royal Oak is serious on every front. As I mentioned previously, the two-tone version, in stainless steel and 18-carat pink gold, stole my heart. With a sophisticated and timeless silver-toned face, and with “Grande Tapisserie” pattern, this is a luxury women’s watch that all of us should consider owning.
There’s no better time to match your style with these iconic luxury women’s watches. There’s a feminine edge to all of the above choices. Having said that, some of them are quite unisex. And only one of these suggestions is quartz powered! Who’d have thought it!
With more women migrating toward mechanical timepieces than ever before, I hope that gradually I’ll be able to add more complicated watches to columns of this nature.
Each watch tells its own story. From this list, the piece that hooked me in from the get-go was the Omega Constellation. Given the fact that all my Constellations are quartz-driven, while the rest of my watches are mechanical, I’d say I could opt for a mechanical Constellation as the movement puts a personal spin on the watch. Therefore, above all, your first investment should be about you, your lifestyle, and what resonates with you personally. In the comment section below, let me know which watch has been, or will/would be, your next purchase.
