Inspired by the pulsometer and resin case of a 1970s Breitling Sprint timepiece, the new Breitling Endurance Pro also has an ultra-light case and a pulsation scale. However, instead of a resin case and vintage design, the Endurance Pro features a modern aesthetic and a high-tech black Breitlight® case that measures 44 mm x 12.5 mm.
Breitlight® is an advanced proprietary polymer case material that was introduced by Breitling in 2016. The material is lighter than steel or titanium, is nonmagnetic, thermally stable, and highly resistant to scratches and corrosion. It feels warm to the touch compared to metal and has a slightly textured surface.
In addition to the Breitlight® bidirectional 360-degree compass bezel, the flange of the watch features a pulsometer scale on a ring that’s color-matched to the crown wrap and the included rubber strap.
A pulsometer scale (often used by medical doctors historically) provides a way to more quickly measure a patient’s heartbeat. It’s also useful for athletes who want to monitor their heart rate the old school way.
Since heart rate is calculated by the number of times the heart beats in a minute, the pulse are is exactly equal to the heartbeat. Therefore, taking the pulse is a direct measure of heart rate. Instead of counting every beat over a period of a minute — by using a pulsation scale you can take the pulse much more quickly. Depending on the design, the scale it’s usually calibrated to 15 or 30 pulsations so you count up to either 15 or 30 beats and then look at the center seconds hand (or chronograph seconds hand) depending on the watch, and the number it’s pointing to on the pulsometer is the heart rate.
For the Endurance Pro, the pulsometer scale is calibrated to 30 beats and you have to activate the chronograph which then indicates the rate via the red chronograph seconds hand once you’ve counted 30 beats and stopped it.
Breitling’s caliber 82 is a battery-powered thermo-compensated SuperQuartz movement and is the only quartz accurate enough to be COSC-certified. SuperQuartz is ten times more precise than a standard quartz movement. The in-house movement displays the hours, minutes, seconds, date, measures 30 mm x 5.12 mm, and is hidden behind a solid caseback.
A flat sapphire crystal protects the dial and the crown is non-screw locked. Water-resistance is rated to 100 meters. Each watch comes with a color-matched Diver Pro rubber strap with a Breitlight® double-pin buckle. A matching vibrant Outerknown ECONYL® yarn NATO strap can also be purchased separately. (Ref.
