Blancpain Bathyscaphe Chronographe Flyback green dial The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Chronographe Flyback green dial is housed in a satin-brushed case and features a fully integrated chronograph movement with column wheel and vertical coupling. The balance has a frequency of 5Hz, conferring greater precision as well as delivering additional benefits. In 1953, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms was released and a legend was born. The model’s history is entwined with the formation of the elite French Naval Diving Corps, ‘Les Nageurs de Combat’. The Fifty Fathoms was part of the equipment specified by Robert Maloubier, a highly accomplished diver and leader of this elite team of combat divers. Maloubier is often cited as critical to the success of the Fifty Fathoms. However, another individual instrumental to the creation of the Fifty Fathoms was Jean-Jacques Fiechter, a consummate diver and Blancpain’s CEO at the time. Irrespective of its past, the Fifty Fathoms remains much loved by purists and it is widely considered the perfect diving tool. Originally, the Bathyscaphe was a stand-alone model, intended to be smaller than the Fifty Fathoms and better suited to daily wear. It was released around 1956/1957. In 2013, Blancpain unveiled a new Bathyscaphe for a modern generation, positioned as a sub-collection of the Fifty Fathoms family. This watch, measuring 43mm, was smaller than some of the Fifty Fathom models of the time, featured a meteor grey dial and displayed hours, minutes, central seconds and date.
